Old Age

And whoever We grant a long life, We reverse them in development... [Quran 36:68]


It is Allah Who created you in a state of weakness, then developed ˹your˺ weakness into strength, then developed ˹your˺ strength into weakness and old age... [Quran 30:54]


Your Parents - Your Gateway to Paradise!


Abdullah bin Amr narrated that: the Prophet said: "The Lord's pleasure is in the parent's pleasure, and the Lord's anger is in the parent's anger."(Hasan). [Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1899]


For your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And honour your parents. If one or both of them reach old age in your care, never say to them ˹even˺ ‘ugh,’ nor yell at them. Rather, address them respectfully. [Quran 17:23]


Abu Darda' heard the Prophet (ﷺ) say that: "The father is the middle door of Paradise (i.e. the best way to Paradise), so it is up to you whether you take advantage of it or not." [Sunan Ibn Majah 3663]


Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, ascended the pulpit and he said, “Amin, amin, amin.” It was said, “O Messenger of Allah, you ascended the pulpit and said amin, amin, amin.” The Prophet said, “Verily, Gabriel came to me and he said: Whoever reaches the month of Ramadan and he is not forgiven, then he will enter Hellfire and Allah will cast him far away, so say amin. I said amin. Whoever sees his parents in their old age, one or both of them, and he does not honor them and he dies, then he will enter Hellfire and Allah will cast him far away, so say amin. I said amin. Whoever has your name mentioned in his presence and he does not send blessings upon you and he dies, then he will enter Hellfire and Allah will cast him far away, so say amin. I said amin.” [Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān 915]

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “May the man before whom I am mentioned - and he does not send Salat upon me - be humiliated. And may a man upon whom Ramadan enters and then passes, before he is forgiven, be humiliated. And may a man whose parents reached old age in his presence, and they were not a cause for his entrance to Paradise, be humiliated.” [Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3545]


Abu Huraira reported Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) as saying: Let him be humbled into dust; let him be humbled into dust. It was said: Allah's Messenger, who is he? He said: He who sees either of his parents during their old age or he sees both of them, but he does not enter Paradise. [Sahih Muslim 2551a]


Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr: A man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) asking his permission to take part in Jihad. The Prophet (ﷺ) asked him, "Are your parents alive?" He replied in the affirmative. The Prophet (ﷺ) said to him, "Then exert yourself in their service." [Sahih al-Bukhari 3004]


It was narrated from Mu'awiyah bin Jahimah As-Sulami, that Jahimah came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I want to go out and fight (in Jihad) and I have come to ask your advice." He said: "Do you have a mother?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Then stay with her, for Paradise is beneath her feet." [Sunan an-Nasa'i 3104]


Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-'As: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Those who do not show mercy to our young ones and do not realise the right of our elders are not from us. [Sunan Abi Dawud 4943]


When the mother of ilyas bin muaweyah passed away, ilyas cried. so it was said to him: what makes you cry? He replied: I used to have two doors of paradise open for me, and now one of them is closed.

Honoring One's Parents

Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with them, narrated that: Allah's Messenger said: "Qintar is twelve thousand 'Uqiyah, each 'Uqiyah of which is better than what is between heaven and earth." And the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) said: "A man will be raised in status in Paradise and will say: 'Where did this come from?' And it will be said:'From your son's praying for forgiveness for you.'" [Sunan Ibn Majah 3660]


May Allah SWT grant our father & mother the highest rank in Jannah. Indeed Jannah is my dream may we all meet there one day. In shaa Allah


Do a special prayer for your parents on the day of Arafah.


'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: There is no day when God sets free more servants from Hell than the Day of 'Arafa. He draws near, then praises them to the angels, saying: What do these want? [Sahih Muslim 1348]
